Tattoo Aftercare & Healing
Last updated: 07/08/2026
A high-quality tattoo relies 50% on the artist's work and 50% on how well you take care of it during the healing process. Please read this guide carefully to ensure optimal results.
1. The First Day
- Classic wrap (plastic film): Keep the protective film on for about 3 to 4 hours after the session. It protects your open skin from bacteria and dust.
- Second Skin (adhesive transparent wrap type Tegaderm/Dermalize): Keep it on for 24 to 48 hours (unless it peels off, leaks, or significant fluid builds up underneath).
- Once you remove the wrap, wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented, pH-neutral soap. Do not use washcloths.
- Pat dry gently with a clean paper towel. Do not rub. Let it air-dry for 10 minutes before applying any cream.
2. Daily Care (Weeks 1 to 3)
- Wash your tattoo 1 to 2 times a day (morning and evening) with neutral soap.
- Apply a thin layer of healing cream (like Cicaplast B5, Bepanthen Tattoo, or a recommended equivalent) 2 to 3 times a day. Massage it in completely. The tattoo should not be "drowned" under the cream; apply very small amounts.
- After a few days, the skin will start peeling, and small scabs may form. Do not scratch or pick them, as this can pull ink out and leave scars.
3. Strict Prohibitions (For 1 Month)
- No soaking/swimming: Avoid baths, long showers, swimming pools, the sea, hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms. Water softens scabs and invites infection.
- No direct sun/UV: Keep the tattoo strictly out of direct sunlight and do not use tanning beds. After complete healing (1 month), always apply SPF 50 sunscreen when exposed to the sun to prevent fading.
- No tight clothing: Wear loose, clean cotton clothing to avoid irritating friction on the tattooed area.
- No intense workouts: Avoid heavy workouts that cause excessive sweating or stretch the tattooed area for the first 7 to 10 days.
